Richard A. Walker handles trial and appellate matters in all state and federal courts in addition to directing litigation outside the United States. His practice covers all areas of aviation litigation; insurance and reinsurance coverage litigation; and litigation of commercial disputes. He routinely represents domestic and foreign air carriers, as well as aerospace product manufacturers—primarily in connection with major accidents. Mr. Walker reads and speaks fluent Spanish and French and speaks conversational Italian. He often works with overseas clients and has handled matters originating in many European, Latin American and Asian countries.

Mr. Walker has represented a number of clients in aviation disaster litigation including: National Car Rental in 160 third-party wrongful death claims brought by Northwest Airlines as a result of the Air Crash Disaster near Detroit Metropolitan Airport on August 16, 1987; United Airlines in over 200 wrongful death and bodily injury claims arising from the Air Crash Disaster at Sioux City, Iowa on July 19, 1989; United Airlines in numerous cases arising from the Air Crash Disaster near Colorado Springs, Colorado on March 3, 1991; Lucas Aerospace in forty-nine wrongful death claims arising from the crash of Copa Flight 201 near Tecuti, Panama on June 6, 1992; the Monsanto Company in litigation arising from the crash of USAir Flight 427 near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1994; Fine Air Services in cases arising from the crash of a Fine Air DC-8 near Miami International Airport on August 7, 1997; Federal Express in claims arising from an in-flight fire on a DC-10 near Newburgh, New York on September 5, 1995; London Insurers in claims arising from the crash of a Federal Express-operated MD-11 at Newark, New Jersey on July 31, 1997; and Insurers and Reinsurers of China Airlines in claims arising from the crash of an MD-11 at Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Airport on August 22, 1999.

Mr. Walker also represents insurers and reinsurers in coverage litigation. Significant cases include: Allendale Mutual Insurance Co. v. Excess Insurance Company, Ltd. and Excess Insurance Company, Ltd. v. Factory Mutual Insurance Company in which Mr. Walker represented forty-two London reinsurers at trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in a suit brought by Allendale Mutual Insurance Co. seeking over $12 million in reinsurance proceeds. Mr. Walker, along with Mr. Kaplan, was successful at trial, obtaining a defense verdict for reinsurers on the basis that the cedent had materially misrepresented the insurability of a warehouse in Seclin, France, which burned to the ground with an inventory of computers valued at nearly $100 million.
